NEWS
The Washington Redskins used a strong defensive effort to pull off a suprising, 23-17 victory over the host Seattle Seahawks.
Washington shut down the Seahawks in the fourth quarter, bringing pressure to fluster quarterback Tavaris Jackson. It was clear throughout the game that Jackson was really struggling to put velocity on the ball with his pectoral injury.
DeAngelo Hall was able to seal the victory with an interception on fourth down with just seconds remaining in the game.
Running back Roy Helu had a solid day against one of the league’s top run defenses, including a terrific 28-yard touchdown run.

The Washington Redskins have signed safety Oshiomogho Atogwe to a five-year contract worth $26 million.
The St. Louis Rams shopped Atogwe extensively last offseason but couldn’t find any interested teams.
The safety was recently cut by the Rams, and he should be an upgrade for the Redskins at the position.
Atogwe will take the snaps away from Kareem Moore, who played 11 games before landing on injured reserve. (Read More…)

The Washington Redskins have announced that they have released veteran running back Clinton Portis.
Portis has struggled to play through injuries the past few seasons and is on the downside of his career.
The Redskins still think Portis can be a quality player, but simply can’t justify the money he is currently making.
The decision means that the Redskins do not have a known quantity at running back, so look for them to be aggressive in free agency. (Read More…)

The Washington Redskins are interested in free agent defensive tackle Shaun Rogers and have already started to discuss a contract with him.
Rogers was just recently released by the Browns as a new regime took over, though his past two seasons were injury-riddled.
It’s an interesting move for the Redskins, who already have to deal with defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth’s attitude and enormous contract.
Rogers is not as bad as Haynesworth in terms of his attitude, but he has been known to be lazy and take some plays off. (Read More…)

Washington Redskins wide receiver Santana Moss’ current contract will be voided five days after the Super Bowl.
Moss will become an unrestricted free agent as soon as a new collective bargaining agreement is drafted.
The wide receiver has been the team’s top pass-catching weapon for several seasons but has grown tired of losing.
He finished 2010 with a career-high 93 receptions and also had six touchdowns and more than 1,000 yards. (Read More…)

Washington Redskins defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth is drawing interest from around the NFL.
Both the Detroit Lions and Philadelphia Eagles have expressed interest in trading for the former All-Pro.
Some believe the Redskins will try and hold onto him and hope to start anew next season, but there is no telling how Haynesworth will react.
The Tennessee Titans remain the front-runner given his connection with Jeff Fisher and productivity while in Nashville. (Read More…)

The Washington Redskins fell behind early, rallied back but fell short in a 33-30 loss to the Dallas Cowboys.
Maybe Mike Shanahan isn’t so dumb after all, as quarterback Rex Grossman played very well in the loss.
Grossman finished with 322 yards passing and four touchdowns in helping the Redskins overcome a huge deficit.
It’s also important to note, however, that he did toss two costly interceptions to help Dallas build their big lead. (Read More…)

The Washington Redskins have made the bold move of benching quarterback Donovan McNabb against the Dallas Cowboys.
Rumors had been circulating of late that the team would like to get a longer look at Rex Grossman before the end of the season.
McNabb recently laughed off questions at a media session that centered around Grossman getting more snaps in practice.
The veteran signal-caller said it would be pretty bad if he wasn’t the starter and hadn’t been told. Oops! (Read More…)

In light of Albert Haynesworth’s recent comments, the Washington Redskins have suspended him for the rest of the year.
Haynesworth recently made it clear that he would no longer speak with head coach Mike Shanahan.
The Redskins have suspended him for conduct detrimental to the team, meaning he won’t be paid.
This will raise a whole bunch of issues with the NFLPA, and I’m sure they will appeal on behalf of Haynesworth. (Read More…)

Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan and defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth met to discuss some issues over his injury.
Shanahan said that the talks were an internal matter and would not be discussed with the media.
The head coach has made it clear that he is unhappy with Haynesworth’s practice habits and he will be treated just like everyone else.
The defensive tackle doesn’t seem to be on the same page with the team, but his teammates say it isn’t a distraction. (Read More…)
